20M $OP Stolen, Optimism Confirms

Optimism tweeted that 20m $OP has been stolen. Previously, a total of 20m $OP was granted to Wintermute from Optimism Foundation to provide liquidity provisioning services. Wintermute later discovered they could not access these tokens, because the provided address was for a Layer1 multisig that they had not yet deployed to Optimism Layer2. An attacker was able to deploy the multisig to Layer2 before Wintermute did, and assumed ownership of the 20m $OP. 1m $OP has been sold since then. The Wintermute team has committed to buying back the misappropriated tokens.
