AntPool Agrees to Refund Accidental $3 Million Transaction Fee

Bitcoin mining pool AntPool has agreed to refund the record-breaking $3 million transactionfee it mined last week. An inadvertent error by a bitcoin user resulted in a transaction fee of $3 million for a transfer of 55.77 BTC, which was paid to AntPool.

Following the mining of the transaction, AntPool's risk control system temporarily froze the fee during transaction packaging. AntPool is now urging the user to contact them before December 10, undergo identity verification, and complete the necessary steps to facilitate the refund process.

The user paid the transaction fee claimed it was their wallet that paid the fee and that they had been hacked. “I created a new cold wallet, transferred 139 BTC to it and it got transferred out to another wallet immediately,” the user “83_5BTC” posted on X. “I can only imagine that someone was running a script on that wallet and that the script had a weird fee calculation. 55 BTC gone forever. 83.5 BTC to be decided.”
