ConsenSys to Launch Decentralized Infura this year

ConsenSys' chief strategist has announced the upcoming launch of a decentralized alternative to Infura by the end of this year. This new platform is expected to include major Web2 cloud providers as part of its network.

Infura currently serves as the primary access point for most decentralized applications (DApps) seeking real-time on-chain data from the Ethereum blockchain. However, its exclusive control by ConsenSys has raised concerns about its single point of failure. In November 2020, the outage of Infura led to disruptions, affecting the MetaMask wallet, centralized exchanges, and DeFi projects.

Efforts are well underway to establish a decentralized marketplace featuring up to five different data providers capable of fulfilling a role similar to Infura but distributed across the globe. In this decentralized ecosystem, Infura will transition to being just one of the providers within the network.

This development aims to enhance the reliability and censorship resistance of Ethereum access. DApps will no longer be reliant on a single data service provider located within a specific jurisdiction, promoting a more robust and resilient network infrastructure.
