Cryptocurrency project Worldcoin plans to raise $100 million at a $3 billion token valuation, with participation from existing investors a16z and Khosla Ventures, through the sale of Worldcoin tokens.
Worldcoin, co-founded by former Y Combinator principals Sam Altman, Alex Blania and Max Novendstern, aims to launch a global digital currency that allows users to scan their irises with a spherical device (Orb) they developed to form a specific digital code and receive a certain amount of digital currency. The platform previously closed a $25 million funding round last October at a $1 billion valuation, with participation from a16z, Coinbase Ventures and others.
