Ethereum Will Have Hard Fork Upgrade to Postpone the Difficulty Bomb for About 2 to 3 Months
The Ethereum Geth client will release v1.10.19 and introduce the Gray Glacier hardfork, which is expected to go live on the Ethereum Mainnet at block height 15050000 (around the end of June) to postpone the difficulty-bomb for about 2 to 3 months. All users are required to update before the Gray Glacier hardfork activates.
Previously, Ethereum core developer Tim Beiko says Ethereum is expected to merge between late August and November. The developers are postponing Ethereum's difficulty bomb as they are currently fixing the bugs they discovered during the Ropsten merge. The Ethereun Ropsten testnet will need to launch a new beacon chain after the merger is completed, and the Goerli testnet will be the last test before the mainnet is merged.
