Gate.io Hacked for $230M in April 2018 Without Disclosure, Says ZachXBT

On-chain sleuth ZachXBT said on Twitter that crypto exchange Gate.io was hacked by North Korean hackers for around $230m on April 21st, 2018, and hid the fact from customers and the public.

Following the report, Lookonchain said that the first transaction of Gate.io's hot wallet was also on April 21, 2018. In addition, Lookonchain analyzed Gate.io's 4 wallets on Ethereum and found the exchange only has $479M in assets, including 71m $GT and 3.1t $SHIB. $ETH (53,930) and $USDT (32m) holdings only count for 21% of the total assets.
