Metis, an Ethereum Layer 2, has announced that it is building the first-ever Hybrid Rollup, which will combine optimistic rollup architecture with zero-knowledge proofs. This innovative technology will offer developers an easy-to-code-in blockchain while providing users with the finality, security, and decentralization that zero-knowledge rollups can provide.
By implementing zero-knowledge proofs to its optimistic rollup architecture, Metis aims to reduce transaction finality time from 7 days to approximately 4 hours. This will increase throughput and reduce Ethereum congestion, while also benefiting users with greater capital efficiency and faster fund withdrawals from L2.
The company plans to open-source the technology and invites all builders to join the journey toward the first Hybrid Rollup.
