Ripple‘s Chief Technology Officer, David Schwartz, has called on validators within the XRP Ledger community to consider adopting an automated market maker (AMM) feature. However, he emphasizes that this adoption should only occur if a consensus is reached within the community. In a recent discussion on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Schwartz highlighted the potential benefits of integrating AMMs into the XRPL.
In early 2022, Ripple proposed a novel AMM design for the XRP Ledger. It has subsequently been implemented on a devnet, with a mainnet launch being contingent upon governance approval. Unlike traditional AMMs, such as those on Ethereum, it integrates directly into the XRP ledger itself as a core primitive.
This AMM is a protocol-native AMM, which means that liquidity is shared at a blockchain level, and it is easy for developers to integrate AMM functionality into their projects, removing pain points such as liquidity bootstrapping.
