SushiSwap to Launch Sushi Studios, Allowing External Teams to Leverage Sushi Brand and Develop Protocols

SushiSwap announced it will launch Sushi Studios, a decentralized brand licensing and incubator framework that allows external product teams to leverage the Sushi brand and develop protocols without requiring Sushi DAO Treasury funding.

SushiSwap CEO Jared Grey suggested a framework to continue horizontal product development in his Head Chef candidacy proposal, which was called Sushi Labs and now relabeled to Sushi Studios. Previously, Sushi issued grants from the DAO Treasury to facilitate the development of its ecosystem, with multiple products launched, such as lending platform Kashi and launchpad MISO. However, the two products are shuttered because they're at the cost of productivity and resources of the core product team maintaining the Sushi DEX. "The current grant system limits Sushi's market distribution and innovative spirit due to its limited capacity," Grey said.

Sushi Studios will receive a royalty-free license in perpetuity for the use of the Sushi brand. It will give developers access to Sushi to provide complimentary products that bring value to the Sushi brand, ecosystem and stakeholders. Sushi Studios will also authorize independent token economies, allowing for the bootstrapping of liquidity, fundraising, and distribution of new product launches.
