The Twitter account of digital artist Beeple was hacked on May 22. The attackers placed phishing links on his Twitter, luring users to click on them in order to steal their wallet assets. One of the links was a raffle claiming to be in partnership with Louis Vuitton NFT collection.
The attackers used the first phishing link to obtain 36 $ETH, worth approximately $73,000 at the time, and used the second link to net approximately $365,000 worth of $ETH and NFT from high-value NFT collections such as Mutant Ape Yacht Club, VeeFriends and Otherdeeds, bringing the total value stolen from the scam to approximately 438,000. On-chain data shows the scammer selling the NFTs on OpenSea and putting their stolen $ETH into a crypto mixer in an attempt to launder the gains.
Beeple has now regained control of its account and is alerting users to similar scams.
