Reported by Financial Times, Coinbase was asked by the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to halt trading in all cryptocurrencies except bitcoin prior suing the company.
The SEC's legal action against Coinbase last month accused the exchange of failing to register as a broker and identified 13 cryptocurrencies on its platform as securities.
But prior to the lawsuit, the SEC asked Coinbase to delist all of its more than 200 tokens, except bitcoin.
Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong said the SEC did not explain how it reached that conclusion, adding that the company disagreed with the regulator's interpretation of the law.
