After several companies, including BlackRock and Fidelity, filed applications for spot Bitcoin ETFs, the race for Ethereum futures ETFs has begun. Currently, six companies have filed applications with the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) for Ethereum futures ETFs, which are Volatility Shares, Bitwise, VanEck, Roundhill, ProShares and Grayscale.
Volatility Shares, which launched the first leveraged crypto ETF in the US called 2x Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITX) in June, filed on July 28. The other five companies followed with their applications on August 1. If approved, the Ethereum futures ETFs will launch 75 days from the filing date. Historically, however, the SEC has never approved any ETF applications tracking Ethereum futures contracts.
