Freename, a Web3 TLDs and Domains platform, has closed a $2.5 million seed round led by Sparkle Ventures with participation from the Blockchain Founders Fund, Golden Record Ventures and Abalone Asset Management.
Freename allows users to create their own top-level domains (TLDs) and second-level domains (SLDs) on multiple blockchains. These Web3 domains represent a digital identity that can be used for a various functions such as sending and receiving crypto payments, sending Web2 and Web3 emails, browsing traditional websites and building decentralized websites. On Freename, each TLD owner can become a real registrar, generating ongoing revenue as new users register domain names on their TLDs.
Products developed by Freename include Web3 WHOIS, a domain explorer that queries wallets, domains, and TLDs from Freename, Unstoppable Domains, and ENS registry. In addition, its products include the Freename Browser Extension, which is compatible with Chrome, Brave and Firefox, and can send crypto payments by integrating with MetaMask and other major decentralized wallets.
