OpenSea Launches Malicious URL and Theft Detection Systems

OpenSea announced that it has launched two systems, Malicious URL Detection and Removal, and Theft Detection and Disablement, to solve scams and theft in the NFT space.

Malicious URL Detection and Removal will proactively scan URLs shared on OpenSea to help identify if they are malicious in nature. Scammers that attempt to spread detected malicious links will have their accounts banned.

Theft Detection and Disablement will detect NFT theft in real-time and prevent further resales of suspected stolen items to other buyers. When the system flags a potential theft or suspicious transfer, it will automatically mark the NFT as "under review" with a yellow warning icon, disable resales of the NFT using OpenSea, and alert the previous owner of the NFT over email. Those users can follow up to confirm whether or not their NFT was in fact stolen.
